I guess this is as good a topic as any to write my first journal entry on.
My biggest resolution this year is to do more art. I consider myself an artist, sure, but I don't draw nearly as much as I should. I want to draw something worthy of dA on a regular basis. Especially because I've improved so much after drawing, what, 25-35 serious drawings of ponies last year? Imagine how much I can improve if I draw more often! This may seem like common sense, but I was pretty thick-skulled a few years ago. I wasn't confident enough with my art, so what did I do? I stopped drawing. I'd still sketch something here or there, sure, but my drive was pretty much gone. Which is a shame, because I can only imagine what my art would be like today if I'd gotten a few more solid years of practice under my belt.
I also need to push myself more. Do more art outside of my comfort zone. The shaded Rarity and Pinkie pieces ("Generosity" and "Smile," respectively) are great examples of this. Did I know exactly what I was doing when I started? Definitely not. Did I learn a lot through trial and error? Absolutely. Did they turn out okay? I'd like to think so, and they've paved the way for my future art to turn out even okay-er.
So yeah. In 2011, my artistic skills improved more drastically than in any other year of my life. I now have every reason to believe that 2012 will be even better for me if I just keep at it.
